Ann L. McCormick, P.E., President
Ms. Ann McCormick has been elected President for Fiscal Year 2007/08, after serving as Vice President in Fiscal Year 2003 and president since 2004.
She began her service on the Board as a Commissioner in Fiscal Year 2000.
Ms. McCormick is a Principal of the energy consulting firm Newcomb Anderson McCormick, Inc. and was
formerly the Vice President of Consulting Services at EMCOR Energy & Technologies.
She has been an energy and engineering consultant for more than 20 years, specializing in energy conservation,
energy efficiency program implementation, sustainable design, and environmentally responsible generation.
Ms. McCormick holds a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin and
a Baccalaureate degree also in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University.
She is a Registered Mechanical Engineer in the State of California, a Certified Energy Manager, and a LEED Accredited Professional.
Peter W. Holmes, Vice President
Commissioner Holmes was appointed to the Board in June 2005.
A local mortgage consultant, Mr. Holmes brings to the Board wide-ranging experience in management, planning, marketing, and sales.
He has served as an expert panelist for the California Association of Mortgage Brokers.
Additionally, he is Past President of the Emeryville Chapter of Business Network International and
has extensive newspaper experience as a both columnist and correspondent.
Mr. Holmes holds a baccalaureate degree from the University of Arizona and is licensed by the California Department of Real Estate.
Gregory Hamm
Dr. Gregory Hamm was appointed to the Board in July 2007. He is a founder of Stratelytics, a business consulting firm serving the energy industry. He brings over 20 years of experience resolving organizational issues via facilitation, coaching, and modeling. Dr. Hamm’s most recent work has been in the valuation of electric power resources with a special emphasis on renewables. He also has substantial experience in risk management, environmental planning, and research and development planning.
Dr. Hamm has lectured at Stanford, U.C. Berkeley, and C.S.U. East Bay. He holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon and an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford. His thesis was on the modeling of the economic impacts of greenhouse gases and greenhouse gas controls. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in California.
John R. McCahan
Commissioner McCahan also was appointed to the Board in June 2005. He has over
30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, including in such
areas as strategic planning, business development, project management, information
technology, sales, and human resources.
Mr. McCahan also chairs the American Red Cross, Alameda Service Center Advisory Board and the Disaster Task Force.
He has previous experience as an Assistant Fire Chief in the Alameda County OES Fire Department.
He holds a Masters in Business Administration in Marketing from Golden Gate University and a baccalaureate degree from the University
of San Francisco, as well as numerous industrial certifications.
Debra Kurita
Under City Charter, City Manager Debra Kurita also serves as a Commissioner on the Public Utilities Board. She assumed these duties concurrent with her appointment as Alameda’s City Manager in 2005.
Presently responsible for the 15 departments and over 600 employees that comprise the City of Alameda organization, City Manager Kurita has more than 26 years of municipal experience. Prior to joining the Alameda team, she served the City of Santa Ana for 20 years, 15 of which were as Assistant City Manager. She also has been affiliated with the cities of Torrance and Lawndale.
Ms. Kurita holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and a baccalaureate degree in political science from the University of California at Davis.
