Alameda Power & Telecom also provides the SchoolNet Project to AUSD at no cost to the school district. SchoolNet uses fiber-optic cable to connect 20 Alameda Unified School District sites, including all public schools and district offices. It creates a wide-area information system network for the district.

Benefits of the project include

• high-speed data transfer among systems;
• high-speed Internet access;
• video conferencing, closed-circuit, and cable television systems;
• and efficient internal telephone systems, employing District terminal equipment.

In addition, Alameda Power & Telecom awarded the school district a $250,000 high-technology grant to the district for the purchase and installation of terminal equipment.
