It is possible to set up additional computers to take advantage of the
AlamedaNET Cable Modem Service.
Please note that home networking is not supported by AlamedaNET.
Home Networking is the sole responsibility of the end user.
That said, we can direct you on the
right path. The following will outline various methods that can be used,
but how to do it will be your responsibility.
There are a few ways to get additional computers online:
- Network Router (difficult) -
The best option is to connect a router directly to the cable modem.
You can connect your computers directly to the router, or you can
connect your computers to a switch which is then connected to the
router. Recommended routers are D-Link, and Link-Sys.
- Network Hub (easiest) - Your account will require a second IP
address. AlamedaNET offers additional dynamic IP addresses for
a nominal fee ($6/month).
Contact Alameda Power & Telecom (510-748-3900)
for availability.
- Server with 2 Network Cards (hardest) - Requires LAN setup knowledge
and Operating System capable of managing 2 network adapters.
