When you get a new computer, the manufacturer should provide with you with
detailed instructions for setting it up. In addition to those instructions,
however, we offer the following tips and suggestions:
- Save all receipts and papers, and keep them where they can be located
easily. In addition, keep the packaging for at least thirty (30) days before
recycling it, in
the event you have to send everything back to the manufacturer.
- Buy a power strip surge protector that includes phone line surge protection
and use it!
- Your computer manufacturer may suggest that you create an emergency boot
diskette; if so, follow
the necessary instructions. Alternately, it may come with an emergency boot
diskette already created.
- Install anti-virus software. Many computers come with with anti-virus
protection software (i.e., Norton or McAfee) preinstalled. If yours did not,
you must buy a program and install it.
A basic package is all you need. Your anti-virus software may suggest the
creation of an emergency anti-virus diskette; follow the instructions
of your anti-virus software.
- You may wish to extend your warranty. We recommend that your warranty covers
parts and labor for at least two years.
