Ensure you have obtained and installed a NIC (Network Interface Card)
card prior to configuring your cable Internet connection.
- Click on Start> Settings> Control Panel.
- Double-click on Network.
- Scroll down the list until you see TCP/IP > XXXX
Ethernet Adapter ("XXXX" being the make of your Ethernet card.)
Select the proper TCP/IP entry and click the
Properties button.
- Click the radio button next to Obtain an
IP address automatically.
- Click the WINS Configuration tab at the top.
- Click the radio button next to Disable WINS
Resolution.
- Click the Gateway tab.
- Clear all fields.
- Click the Bindings tab.
- Uncheck all items.
- Click the DNS Configuration tab.
- Select Disable DNS.
- Click OK, then
OK again to exit the Network properties window.
- If prompted to reboot you computer, click Yes.
