Ensure you have obtained and installed a NIC (Network Interface Card)
card prior to configuring your cable Internet connection.
- Click on Start>
Settings> Control
Panel.
- Double-click on Network.
- Click the Protocols tab,
select TCP/IP Protocol and click on
Properties.
- Select Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server.
- Click the DNS tab and make sure the Host name
field is filled in. If not, type in your first name.
- Remove all DNS IP addresses in the DNS Service Search Order
and Domain Suffix Search Order.
- Click the WINS Address tab.
Delete all fields and clear all checkboxes.
- Perform the following only on Windows NT Server:
- Click the DHCP Relay tab and
clear all entries in the DHCP Servers window.
- Click the Routing tab and
uncheck Enable IP Forwarding.
- Click OK.
- Click Close.
- If prompted to reboot your computer, click Yes.
