The Federal communications Commission (FCC) has authorized all U.S. TV stations currently broadcasting analog television to set up and operate second channels for digital television. A number of stations are broadcasting a portion of their programming in HDTV. Every station will be able to operate two channels until 2006 when, under current plans, the FCC will phase out analog TV broadcasting.
