Run to see this. | Magical and timeless! Reviewer: Richard (Ricky) Murray from Alameda, CA on 03/27/07 God Bless everyone involved for making this incredible documentry. For my brothers and I, and all my neighborhood friends, this was truly a "magical" time in all our lives. It was a time of innocence, and growing up. The Alameda t-shirt little league baseball program taught so many of us much more that athletics; it illustrated the values of team work, friendship, and family time! To this day, I can't drive by those fields without remembering a big play, practicing with dad and friends, big simles and of course, "two, four, six, eight, who do we appreciate!" Practicing at the park from morning till dusk, all for the love of playing baseball! I cherish all those memories! I'd like to thank everyone who I played with (and against), all my coaches, and most importantly, my family for always being there at the games and supporting me! I hope all my childhood friends are doing well! I highly encourage eveyone to view this DVD and watch a truly "magical" time in all our lives! |
Run to see this. | Brought an Ex Pat Alameda Boy to tears Reviewer: Mike Pola-Backup 2B, Franklin/Rittler Park from Alameda, CA on 04/05/04 If you, like I, long for the simpler times as a kid growing up in Alameda, you will be transported back to a different era watching PlayBall.
Endless summer days spent playing baseball, from morning until mom called you in for dinner.
It reflects on a time when a kid could make a name for himself based solely on his performance on the city park baseball diamonds - one of the last true meritocracies. It was a time that unfortunately today's overprotected, overscheduled kids will never have a chance to experience. |
This will speak to you. | Honored to be a part of Reviewer: The crafty southpaw ACE from Alameda, CA on 03/30/04 I really enjoyed being part of the documentary and watching the finished product. I was in the "Greatest Game" segment. I think Kin did an excellent job putting together a look back at the T-shirt league of the 1960's. The movie brought back special memories of a simpler life. We all relied on the parks for year around activities and a gathering place for neighborhood kids. It was a safe and healthy atmosphere.
Kin was able to remind the entire Alameda community how great it really was back in the 1960's for kids.
I would have liked to see more footage of game action, awards ceremony or old interviews. I realize information which is nearly 40 years old is difficult to obtain. A lot of the stories were very good. Some were repetitious. I think the viewers would have enjoyed more photos depicting players, games and all the teams.
Thanks Kin on behalf of the 1964 Franklin Eagles Pee-wees! |
Run to see this. | Thanks AP&T Reviewer: Rich from Alameda, CA on 03/25/04 I grew up in Alameda and was thrilled to hear about PlayBall!- Alameda's Sandlot Saga. My brothers and I got together at our mother's house to watch it on Channel 31. It was fantastic. Thanks to AP&T for bringing this story to television. Many great memories of the park days were brought back. |
