What's It All About?

Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced "bouquet") ceaselessly looks for ways to push herself up the social ladder, though much to her dismay she's wedged on a rung just below her sister Violet - whose house has a swimming pool, sauna, and room for a pony, and just a wee bit above her working class sisters Daisy and Rose.

Has clearly seen its day

I enjoyed this show about fifteen years ago, but its dated now and essentially a one-joke series. Thanks.

Several Cuts Above

This British comedy is so much more worthy of our attention than her American counterparts. Hyacinth, the ultimate climber, and her effect upon those around her are hilarious to watch and appropriate for the whole family from 10 years old and up--we ALL know a bragger or two who we'll recognize in this show!

Love This British Comedy
Reviewer: Pat from Alameda, CA on 02/23/07
I like British humor and for years I enjoyed the Are You Being Served series until the lease period for Channel 9 had expired. I've been thinking of writing one of the other PBS stations to see if they can obtain it.

Biting British humour
Reviewer: Dale Griffin from Alameda, CA on 02/13/07
superb acting, sharp writing, never and I mean NEVER dumb like so much American comedy. And only on this channel am I spared having to hear people use, misuse and overuse the word "like" (I was like, and you were like, and she's like....). Even American animation has sunk to that level. I wish Alameda Power and Telecom would eliminate some of the channels no one watches (like all the political channels) and air a lot more British shows.
