Installing New Utility Meters

If your new construction is ready for an electric meter, or if you have an existing meter that is damaged, you must contact Alameda Power & Telecom to request installation of a new electric meter. Alameda Power & Telecom personnel will set up a time to come to your building to install a new meter or repair a damaged one. There is no cost to install a new electric meter. Costs to repair a damaged meter vary. All costs will be charged to the customer for whom the meter is being installed.

Generally, a new residential electric meter is installed within two working days after a City Inspector has inspected and approved your installation and submitted a service order to Alameda Power & Telecom.

A new commercial/industrial service may require other major work. Generally, within two weeks after the City Inspector's approval, a new meter is installed.

To obtain a new meter after your service has been inspected and approved, or for more information, contact Alameda Power & Telecom between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday at 510-748-3900.
