Utility Users Tax
Purpose
The Utility Users Tax is imposed in compliance with Title 3, Chapter 3, Article
2, Division 9, Part C, Section 3-59 of the Alameda Municipal Code as amended by
Ordinance No. 2503 on September 18, 1990. This tax is collected on behalf of the
City of Alameda.
Applicability
This tax is applied to the bills for electric and telecommunications (including
cable television) services for all Alameda Power & Telecom customers except
electrical, water, gas, or municipal corporations, the United States Government
and its agencies, the State of California, the County of Alameda, the City of
Alameda, and other governmental entities.
Rate
7.5% of all charges except the Energy Resources Surcharge (see
Rider ERS).
Seniors (62 and over) and low-income households may be eligible for a reduced
tax rate of 5.5%. Qualifying individuals should contact the city's Finance
Department at 747-4562 for more information and
application forms.
