What is AlamedaNET?
It's a high-speed Internet service for your computer using a cable
modem. The connection is always on and does not use a phone line,
so you never tie up your telephone.

With AlamedaNET, do I need an Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
AlamedaNET provides you with full-service Internet access at a flat rate. No other provider is needed.

What does AlamedaNET cost?
A number of packages are available,
the lowest price for residential service being $19.99 a month.

How fast is high-speed Internet service?
The AlamedaP&T cable Internet system will support cable modems running up
4Mbps (Megabits per second) download x 1.5Mbps upload. (Download is data going
to your computer while upload is data
leaving your computer.) These speeds can change and are not guaranteed
over the actual Internet.

Do I need a firewall?
There are a great many products available to help you protect the security of your AlamedaNET connection,
and we strongly urge you to install a firewall.
Alameda Power & Telecom, however, does not provide technical support with help installation, setup,
configuration of firewall products. All questions regarding firewalls should be directed to a specific
product vendor.

No, but a discount for having both services is available.

How does AlamedaNET connect to my computer?
The cable is run to a cable modem that is connected to your computer via a Network Interface Card (NIC) or USB port.

I have always dialed out over a phone line to get connected to the
Internet. Can I use this same modem?
No, unfortunately. The telephone modem is different from the cable
modem.

Do I have to provide my own cable modem? What kind do I need to get?
You do not need to buy a cable modem: you have the option of renting one from
Alameda P&T for $10/month.
If you choose to purchase your own modem, you should be aware that Alameda P&T
supports up to version 2.0 of Data over Cable System Interface Service (DOCSIS).
