West Alameda's Peanut Butter Jam
September 10 and 11, 2005
Celebrates the Birthplace of Skippy Peanut Butter
Alameda Power and Telecom is proud to be a sponsor and participant of the annual
Peanut Butter Jam. This street fair and music festival will rock Webster Street
in West Alameda from Lincoln to Central Avenues from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday
and Sunday, Sept. 10 and 11, 2005. The event is free and open to the public.
What's Going On
The Peanut Butter Jam will feature musical entertainment from the Daniel Castro Band, the Sun Kings, Tempest and six other musical
groups. The Crucible will present a fire art demonstration on Saturday and the comedy team of Grinn & Barrett will perform their antics
on a low wire on Sunday.
Neptune Beach Party and Luau
Seven tons of sand will be trucked to Webster Street to re-create Neptune Beach.
The Neptune Beach Party and Luau will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday evening, Sept. 10 -- complete with Polynesian entertainment,
Hawaiian fire dancing and a Roast Pig Dinner created and prepared by award-winning chef Clive Hitchens of The New Zealander restaurant.
Tickets for the dinner and show are $20 and must be purchased in advance from The New Zealander at 1400 Webster Street, Alameda,
(510) 769-8555.
The Peanut Butter Connection
Skippy Peanut Butter, which was produced on Webster Street from 1932 to 1974, will be giving out free samples of a variety of
peanut butter-related products, and a local group of Skippy retirees will staff their always-popular Skippy memorabilia booth.
Arts and Craft and Food
Booths offering one-of-a kind original arts and crafts, much of it by local artists, will line the street.
A number of Alameda restaurants will operate food booths, and the international array of restaurants along Webster Street will be open
for business, some of them with Peanut Butter Jam specials.
Wines a'Poppin!
West Alameda's internationally known winery — Rosenblum Cellars — will have its collection fine wines on sale by the glass
or bottle, and will also be selling limited edition "Slammin' Jammin' Red" and "Cool Blues White"
table wines bottled and labeled exclusively for the Peanut Butter Jam.
And For the Kids
A children’s area will provide special games and entertainment for the kids,
including storytelling by professional storyteller Ted Esquivel.
And Let's Not Forget the Sponsors
The event is coordinated by the West Alameda Business Association with contributing
support from Alameda Power & Telecom. Getting in a jam was never so sweet!
