A High School Essay Contest
As citizens, we all have the opportunity to contribute to the future of our community
individually and to play a key role in protecting the environment, no matter how big or small our efforts are.
Alameda Power & Telecom and Sears are proud to sponsor a contest that provides
students with a chance to have their ideas about the future heard.
How to Enter the Contest
Describe your vision, in an essay of no more than 500 words, of
how any individual can make a difference in the future of our community by improving the environment through energy efficiency.
The contest is open to Alameda high school students in grades 9 - 12. us online

What You Can Win
The first place winner will be rewarded with a $500 Sears gift card*,
and the winning essay will be published in The
Alameda Sun and in The FLASH.
The 2nd and 3rd place winners will each receive a $250 Sears gift card*.
All entries will receive a certificate of participation.
And the Winners Are...
Essays will be judged by a panel of experts, and winners will be announced during the
City of Alameda's Earth Day Celebration on April 23rd at Washington Park.
