Join Us Behind the Scenes at a Geothermal Power Plant
Two Separate, Free Tours on October 28th and November 10th
Alamedans know we're committed to clean power.
That's because a clean environment is a value that we share with our customers.
Today, 80% of our electricity in Alameda comes from renewable resources,
and more than half of this power is geothermal,
from the steam fields of Northern California.
We'd like you to see first-hand
how clean and renewable geyser steam is transformed into electric power.
Once again, Alameda Power & Telecom is sponsoring two field trips to
the Northern California Power Agency's geothermal power plants and steam
fields 20 miles north of Calistoga. The field trip is free and open to all
Alamedans, 12 years and older, and lunch is included!
In past tours, more than 600 people have
visited the Geothermal power plants and have seen first-hand the clean, renewable resources
that make it all happen.
Although it is a complex operation,
the plant workers enjoy playing show-and-tell with the Alamedans that take the 3-hour bus
ride. They're happy to explain the whole process from how the steam fields are naturally
created, to how the plant has actually extended the life of the geysers by piping treated
waste water into the geysers.
Tours are being scheduled now
for Thursday, October 28th, and Wednesday, November 10th. Buses will leave
the Alameda Service Center at 2000 Grand Street at 8:30 a.m. We'll return
at approximately 5:00 p.m.
Seats are limited, though,
and reservations will be taken on a first-come basis.
Priority will be given to those who have not gone before.
