OUTAGE CAUSE UNDER INVESTIGATION

ALAMEDA, Calif., July 26, 2004 — Electric service to approximately 200 central Alameda customers was interrupted this morning due to an apparent failure of distribution system equipment.

The outage began at 9:30 a.m. and affected customers generally along Central Avenue, from Oak Street to Chestnut Street, as well as a portion of Alameda Avenue, from Park Street to Oak Street, and some adjacent areas. Summer classes at the Alameda High School, Alameda Unified School District offices, and the main branch of the Alameda Free Library were affected.

Alameda Power & Telecom crews switched to alternate circuitry, restoring power to most customers by 10:25 a.m. Customers in the 2300 block of Alameda Avenue, however, remained without power for most of the morning while equipment was replaced.

Alameda Power & Telecom is conducting a full investigation of the incident.
