NEW ONE-STOP NEWS SHOP LAUNCHED
ALAMEDA, Calif., June 1, 2005 —
Alamedans who need to stay in the know now can get all their news and
information in one place, without charge! Alameda Power & Telecom has launched its
AlamedaNET web portal that integrates the best in local, regional, and national coverage.
According to General Manager Valerie Fong, "It has been our intent, as one of our
telecommunications services, to offer a truly local resource accessible to everyone. Now
anyone, even customers of other Internet service providers, can take advantage of AlamedaNET."
Simply go to www.alamedanet.net or click on the "AlamedaNET" link in
the top navigation bar, and you're instantly connected to a wide
variety of news media, including such local outlets as the Alameda
Sun. There are also resources such as GoogleTM;
local weather, including flu and allergy forecasts; local business
news, including that from such organizations as the Alameda Chamber
of Commerce, Park Street Business Association, West Alameda Business
Association, and of course, the City of Alameda. The Business
and Finance section includes stock quotes and headlines. And
you can easily check out area television and movie listings.
"And it's not just a one-way portal," General Manager Fong continued, "We're
soliciting the participation of local social and civic organizations,
and new content is being added continually. The Alameda City Arts Council, Alameda
Educational Foundation, Alameda Fire Department, Alameda Food Bank,
Kiwanis Club of Alameda, Alameda Museum, and the Linking Families to Success program already are
posting information."
"This is truly Alameda-centric," she added. "It's a loom for building the fabric of
Alameda."
