FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
EMERGENCY OVERRIDE INTERRUPTS
CABLE TV SYSTEM
ALAMEDA, Calif., June 28, 2006 -
Service to Alameda Power & Telecom cable television customers was interrupted briefly this morning due to
a malfunction in an Emergency Alert system.
According to Marketing and Customer Services Manager Bill Garvine, the Alameda Power & Telecom system
offers an override that, in the event of a community emergency,
allows the system to be used solely and immediately for City-wide emergency communications.
Due to a failed switch, the system sensed that an emergency had been declared and
overrode all television programming.
The interruption began at 10:50 a.m.
While many customers were restored within 10 minutes, full service to all customers by 11:09 a.m.
Internet and data services were not affected.
While we truly regret this inconvenience and sincerely apologize to our customers,
we at least can be certain that our community's Emergency Alert system is fully functioning and
available if needed, Garvine added.
