GENERAL MANAGER RESIGNS

ALAMEDA, Calif., September 13, 2006 —Alameda's Assistant City Manager David Brandt has announced the resignation of Ms. Valerie O. Fong from the position of General Manager of Alameda Power & Telecom, a department of the City of Alameda.

Ms. Fong has accepted the position of Utilities Director for the City of Palo Alto, California. In announcing the resignation, Mr. Brandt said, "Val has been a definite asset to the enterprise, and we accept her resignation with regret. We understand and appreciate her interest in her new appointment, though, and wish her well in this endeavor."

The resignation is effective October 14. Mr. Brandt noted, "The City will ensure that there is interim oversight while a full recruitment for a permanent replacement is conducted."

Ms. Fong joined Alameda Power & Telecom in July 2002 and has directed the utility through the development of its electric and telecommunications business lines. Of her tenure, she said, "I have truly enjoyed my association with Alameda Power & Telecom and am proud to have been a part of such a committed, innovative, and dedicated team. The utility is in an excellent position to meet its future challenges."
