POWER PROBLEMS CAUSED BY CABLE FAILURE

ALAMEDA, Calif., June 25, 2007 —The failure of electrical distribution cable shortly before noon today affected service to approximately 4,000 Bay Farm Island customers throughout the afternoon.

Some neighborhoods saw multiple outages as efforts to restore power were undertaken. The incident began at 11:44 a.m. when a cable failure in the vicinity of Auginbaugh Way and Kofman Parkway resulted in the cascading operation of protective equipment throughout the area. Crews were dispatched to reroute power by switching to alternate circuitry, verify system safety and integrity, and replace fuses.

Power was restored to all customers by 5:04 p.m. A full investigation of the incident is pending.
