PUB COMMISSIONER APPOINTED, OFFICERS ELECTED

ALAMEDA, Calif., August 21, 2007 —At its meeting, July 17, Alameda’s City Council confirmed the appointment of Gregory Hamm, Ph.D., as a Commissioner on the Public Utilities Board.

Dr. Hamm is a founder of Stratelytics, a business consulting firm serving the energy industry. He brings over 20 years of experience resolving organizational issues via facilitation, coaching, and modeling. Dr. Hamm’s most recent work has been in the valuation of electric power resources with a special emphasis on renewables.  He also has substantial experience in risk management, environmental planning, and research and development planning.

Dr. Hamm has lectured at Stanford, U.C. Berkeley, and C.S.U. East Bay. He holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon and an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford.  His thesis was on the modeling of the economic impacts of greenhouse gases and greenhouse gas controls. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in California.
 
In other Board news, at its regular August meeting, the Public Utilities Board elected its officers for the 2008 Fiscal Year. Now in her fourth year as President, Ann L. McCormick was reelected for a third term to the office of President, and Commissioner Peter W. Holmes was elected Vice President.
 
Also serving as Commissioners on the Board are Commissioner John R. McCahan and Alameda’s City Manager Debra Kurita.
 
The Board also reelected Mr. Girish Balachandran, Alameda Power & Telecom's General Manager, as its Secretary.
 
The five-commissioner Board oversees City-owned Alameda Power & Telecom and is responsible for setting policies and approving major expenditures. It is the obligation of the Board and Alameda Power & Telecom staff to ensure the supply of reliable electric power and telecommunications services to Alameda customers at the lowest possible cost while maintaining a sound financial position. Meetings are held regularly on the third Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers, City Hall, and are open to the public.
