ALAMEDANS CAN NOW PAY
ELECTRIC BILLS ONLINE

ALAMEDA, Calif., Aug. 28, 2001 -- Alameda Power & Telecom, a department of the City of Alameda, has partnered with Billserv, Inc. to provide an electronic bill presentation and payment (EBPP) system for Alameda residents and businesses.

"Customer service is our primary goal here at Alameda Power & Telecom," says Junona Jonas, general manager of Alameda Power & Telecom. "This new electronic bill payment service will give our customers a simple, convenient and time-saving way to pay their monthly electric utility bill, in a safe, secure and reliable online environment."

With the new e-billing system, Alameda Power & Telecom customers can now view and pay their bills at a variety of front-ends such as banks, portals and billing aggregation sites, including bills.com, Billserv's own bill payment portal. Other online bill pay sites include CheckFree' WebPay E-bill Service, Quicken.com, Yahoo! Bill Pay, the U.S. Postal Service eBillPay website and MSN Bill Pay.

This 'virtual' bill will be identical to the paper one mailed out each month. Customers who enroll in the program will receive an email notification each month when their bill is available to view.

To be eligible for electronic payment, customers must:

  1. Currently receive an Alameda Power & Telecom electric bill, and have an account in good standing.
  2. Have access to a computer with an Internet browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or greater, or Netscape Navigator 3.0 or greater).
  3. Have an active bank checking or savings account.

In addition to the convenience to customers, the e-billing system will help reduce the printing and mailing costs of Alameda Power & Telecom's traditional bill payment system. The cost-savings will help keep rates low and the return to the City of Alameda high.

To learn more about this new, convenient and secure billing option, customers can call an Alameda Power & Telecom Customer Service Representative at 748-3900 or visit the e-billing page of our site.
