TO SERVE AS
POWER AGENCY COMMISSIONER
ALAMEDA, Calif., September 19, 2001 -- The City of Alameda, California, Public Utilities Board recently
acted to appoint Sebastian M. Baldassarre, its President, to serve as its Commissioner to
the Northern California Power Agency (NCPA). As a result, President Baldassarre will
assist in directing a joint powers agency with assets in excess of $1 billion.
In accepting the appointment, President Baldassarre said that, "It is an honor to have
the confidence of the Board to represent the interests of Alameda and its citizens
in this venue. I am very much looking forward to the experience."
NCPA provides electric power to Alameda Power & Telecom, a department of the
City of Alameda and the oldest municipal electric utility west of the Mississippi.
NCPA was formed in 1968 and is generally empowered to purchase, generate, transmit,
distribute, and sell electric energy for the benefit of the present 15 members and
7 associate members.
President Baldassarre, who is serving his second term in this office,
will represent Alameda's interests in NCPA investments and operations.
He has over 30 years of utility management experience, as well as holding a
baccalaureate degree in Management in Business Administration from San Beda College.
The five-commissioner Board oversees City-owned Alameda Power & Telecom and
is responsible for setting policies and approving major expenditures. It is
the obligation of the Board and Alameda Power & Telecom staff to ensure
the supply of reliable electric power and telecommunications services to Alameda
customers at the lowest possible cost while maintaining a sound financial position.
Meetings are held regularly on the third Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in City
Council Chambers, City Hall, and are open to the public.
