FICTITIOUS SURVEY
REPORTED BEING TAKEN
ALAMEDA, Calif., Dec. 6, 2001 - Alameda residents are being called and asked to
participate in a survey purported to be sponsored by Alameda Power & Telecom,
according to Alameda Power & Telecom Marketing Manager Bill Garvine.
However, Garvine says no such survey is being conducted by the local utility.
"It's been reported to us that customers are getting calls from people identifying
themselves as researchers gathering information for us," Garvine says.
"We have done surveys from time to time, and it's possible we will do surveys
in the future. But we have no research underway now."
Garvine adds, "We have no idea why someone would be doing this. However, it's a
devious and unprofessional way to gather information."
He explains, "If Alamedans receive such calls, we just want them to know that
the survey is being conducted for someone else's use, and falsely attributed to us."
