ALAMEDA POWER & TELECOM
TO INSTALL NEW POWER LINE
TO BAY FARM ISLAND
ALAMEDA, Calif., Dec. 19, 2002 - In its continuing commitment to
provide reliable power to Alameda, Alameda Power & Telecom is installing a
third electric power line to Bay Farm Island from the main island of
Alameda. The project construction is slated to begin next week.
According to Alameda Power & Telecom electrical engineer Juan Ulloa, there
is a growing demand for electric power on Bay Farm Island as companies
based there expand, and new businesses move in. "This new 12 kV (kilovolt)
power line will allow us more flexibility in the unlikely event of a power
emergency," says Ulloa. "It provides an extra measure of security for our
customers."
The new power line, which will originate from the Jenney substation on the
main island of Alameda, will require construction in two locations: at the
intersection of Shoreline Drive and Broadway on the main island; and at the
intersection of Brunswick Road and Seaview Parkway on Bay Farm Island. The
work will begin December 26, 2002 and continue through January 2003.
"As a locally owned utility, we are totally committed to ensuring a
reliable power supply for all of Alameda," says Alameda Power & Telecom
General Manager Junona Jonas. "This new power line is further evidence of
how we are making this happen. "
