TUMBLING CONTAINER CAUSES BRIEF OUTAGE
ALAMEDA, Calif., January 28, 2004 -
One of several falling shipping containers struck a utility pole and
power lines this morning, resulting in a brief interruption of electric
service to approximately 3,200 Alameda Power & Telecom customers.
The outage began at 10:34 this morning as containers stacked adjacent
to the Fortmann Marina were being rearranged. Most customers experienced
only a 4-second outage; however, the Marina itself remained without
power for several hours as the facilities serving it were reworked.
According to Alameda Power & Telecom, full costs of the incident will
not be known until after the system is permanently restored.
