FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ALAMEDA POWER & TELECOM PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF
"ESCAPE FROM
DIABETES"
ALAMEDA, Calif., August 7, 2004 -
Alameda Power & Telecom is proud to
sponsor another world TV premiere, "Escape From Diabetes!"
In May 2004, Brian Friedman swam the cold, treacherous waters from
Alcatraz to San Francisco - while handcuffed.
While much of the Bay Area media had limited coverage of the event,
Alameda TV's Channel 31 produced another exclusive film that tracks
Friedman from his preparation and training through the actual day of the
swim. This unique production also covers the escalation of diabetes in
America today, what can be done to combat it, and ways that viewers can
become involved in the fight.
The initial showing of Escape from Diabetes will be aired on Wednesday
evening, August 18, at 7:30 p.m. on Alameda TV's Channel 31. There
will be encore showings on Wednesday throughout September.
Friedman performed the feat in an effort to raise awareness of the
epidemic of diabetes. He explained, "People afflicted with diabetes
feel like they are shackled - possibly for the rest of their lives - by
the disease. I swam to prove that even the impossible can be overcome
with education, awareness, training, and exercise."
Alameda TV's Public Access Channel 31 provides cable television
public and community programming produced or sponsored by Alameda
residents and organizations.
