FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
158,000 LIGHT BULBS RECALLED
ALAMEDA, Calif., December 9, 2004 -
Alameda Power & Telecom is advising its customers that a national distributor of compact fluorescent light bulbs has
recalled about 158,000 of the lamps because of their potential to overheat and spark,
according to the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Compact fluorescents are an energy-efficient replacement for incandescent bulbs.
Technical Consumer Products Inc. of Aurora, Ohio, has received 16 reports that the three-way compact
fluorescent bulbs have overheated. No injuries have been reported, the Commission said.
The bulbs were sold nationwide at Home Depot and Orchard Supply Hardware under brand names Commercial Electric and
DuraBright, respectively, from April to November of this year for about $10 for a single pack and $19 for a double pack.
Other retailers also may have sold the bulbs.
The 32-watt light bulbs, made in China, are about 7 inches high and have a spiral fluorescent tube attached
to a white plastic base.
The recall covers Item Numbers 283-924, 575-717, and 69032.
Consumers should stop using the bulbs immediately and contact the company for a free gift card at 800-397-2647,
weekdays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST.
