FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ELECTRICAL EMERGENCY NOT EXPECTED TO AFFECT ALAMEDA
ALAMEDA, Calif., July 21, 2005 -
The California Independent System Operator (ISO) declared a Stage Two Electrical Emergency for Southern California this afternoon.
It is unlikely that Alameda will be affected by the declaration.
"While Alameda is in a secure position, all Californians would be well served if we take a moment to think before throwing
the switch," said Valerie Fong, General Manager of Alameda Power & Telecom.
In an announcement released at 2:30 this afternoon, the ISO cited high loads and loss of resources as the
reasons for the declaration.
"Alameda has its own resource investments that continue to serve us well," Fong added.
"We also have supplemental emergency generation available should circumstances warrant."
She continued, "I would like to stress that this situation is presently confined to Southern California and
is not expected to head north."
