For more than a century, the American Red Cross has provided a broad range of services to Alamedans. The Red Cross Service Center at Alameda Point offers training in Disaster Preparedness, First Aid, CPR, babysitting and a number of other Health & Safety classes. Our Red Cross Youth Clubs at Alameda and Encinal High School participate in community service projects in addition to receiving training in disaster preparedness and First Aid/CPR. Alameda VolunteersAs part of an American Red Cross Bay Area Disaster Response Team, Alameda volunteers assist in responding to local and Bay Area disasters such as house and apartment fires. Our Disaster Task Force works closely with the City of Alameda Disaster Council to assure that Alameda can become a Disaster Resistant Community. For more than twenty years, the Alameda Red Cross has played a major role in providing Community and Social Services to Alamedans in need. We currently offer two food programs, rental assistance, and administer the Alameda Power & Telecom EAP and EASE utility programs. These utility programs help at-risk Alamedans (Seniors, Disabled, low-income families with children) live affordably in Alameda. A Local Non-Profit OrganizationLast year the American Red Cross responded to over 700 disasters in the Bay Area. That means that twice a day people like you went to someone's damaged home to help a family in need. But we don't just wait for disaster to strike. Red Cross volunteers work to prevent and prepare for emergencies by providing education and training for their neighbors and friends. There is a place for you at your Red Cross. Responding Around The WorldWhether a major earthquake rips through a South American city or a hurricane slams Hawaii, Red Cross volunteers provide disaster relief for the victims of disaster. Bay Area Red Cross Volunteers have traveled as far away as Alaska, Guam, Saipan and Puerto Rico to help families in need. A Proud HistoryFor over 130 years Red Cross volunteers have been guided by a single principle: to help people in need, regardless of race, religion, gender, or national origin. The Red Cross has been there, and will continue to be there-first, best and always-for disaster victims in need of food, clothing and shelter. |
