City of Alameda Heroes - 2005

Community Service Youth Award

The Youth Award is a new category this year and the Alameda Heroes Committee was assisted by Xanthos' Tri-Hi School Health Services in the selection process. Each winner will also receive a $200 Savings Bond from Xanthos in addition to their Heroes Award from our own Bank of Alameda.

Grace H. Lui attends Encinal High School and has volunteered 173 hours at Kaiser Permanente in the past two years, working in the recovery room, labor and delivery, and the emergency information station. In addition, she has been Treasurer and President of the National Honor Society, Secretary of Encinal's Kiwanis Service Club, and is a member of the Alameda Red Cross Youth club.

Jane Sim is an extremely dedicated and devoted leader at St. Joseph Notre Dame, serving as last year's President of the Filipino American Student Organization (the schools largest club) and a Student Body Executive Member of the Campus Life Team. A member of the National Honor Society and Amnesty International, she also finds time to volunteer for Building Futures with Women & Children.
