Citizen of the Year – Lifetime Achievement Award

Sponsored by Alameda Power & Telecom

The Alameda Heroes Citizen of the Year – Lifetime Achievement Award is a new category this year. While many Alamedans perform acts of dedication and service to our community each year, this Heroes Award gives us the opportunity to honor an individual who has been committed to serving our community over a period of ten years or more. This year's winner has served our community for more than 20 years and has been a continuing source of energy and inspiration to all who have worked with him.

Ed Dankworth is a tireless advocate for youth, seniors, and low-income families in the City of Alameda. Serving 20 years on the Alameda Family Services/Xanthos Board, he has been a strong supporter of Head Start, services for runaway and homeless youth, and other Alameda Family Services programs. As a member and chair of the Social Service Human Relations Board he founded "Smart Healthy Babies", a program to support parents of young children in Alameda. Concerned that all those in need be aware of resources that might help them, he led a team of Rotarians to produce four editions of the "Serve and Be Served" guide. He is currently a member of the Alameda Clara Barton Foundation Board, and as member of the Mastick Board, he has also been a voice for Alameda's seniors.
