Firefighter/EMT Award

Captain Sharon Oliver was only the second female fire fighter hired by the Alameda Fire Department at a time when the work environment had still not accepted females as equal counterparts in this male dominated career. She has proved that success can be achieved with hard work and dedication. Her significant accomplishments in the APD include being the first female promoted to Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator and to be promoted to Fire Captain. She is a role model and inspiration to other female fire fighters.
