Community Service Youth Awards

he Youth Community Services Award was first instituted by Alameda Family Services and has been incorporated into the City of Alameda Heroes Awards. In addition to receiving the Heroes Award from Bank of Alameda, each of this year's recipients will receive a $200 savings Bond from Alameda Family Services. They will also represent the best of Alameda's youth as Junior Grand Marshal's in this year's Alameda Mayor's 4th of July Parade.

Jenny Gant:

Jenny Gant is the organizer of the first Middle School Jr. Red Cross Club in the state of California and Co-Editor in Chief of the OAK LEAFAlameda High School newspaper. She has demonstrated her dedication to help others and an ability to inspire her fellow students.Jenny coordinated Family Preparedness Day on the USS HORNET, led the Red Cross High School and Middle School clubs in a Fund Raiser to benefit AIDS orphans in India and Africa, and was one of two students in the entire Bay Area to be selected to serve on the American Red Cross Board of Directors.

Cole Ashcraft:

Cole Ashcraft is Co-Captain of his Neighborhood CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and was the youngest person to complete his CERT training, at the age of 11. He has helped the Alameda Fire Department train and test CERT volunteers and received the AFD's Youth Recognition AwardÓ. He attends Head Royce, and received a $1,500 grant from the school to help purchase supplies for Alameda's CERT program. An active member of Alameda Boy Scout Troop 89, he is a senior patrol leader, and recently applied his Boy Scout and CERT training to come to the aid of an older man having chest pains at Long's Drug store.
